A fascinating take on the modern scourge of maritime piracy, written by someone who’s spent years combating this ugly business; this one’s ripped from tomorrow’s headlines.
- P.T. Deutermann, Author of Pacific Glory

“Bob Branco has crafted a real page-turner of a novel about modern day piracy, full of realistic descriptions of naval operations and military hardware.”
Steve Abbot, Admiral USN (Ret.)
Tom Marfiak, Rear Admiral USN (Ret.)
Former Gulf War Air Warfare Commander & U.S. Naval Institute CEO/Publisher
“….I find that it’s a fantastic story and writing. …Bob puts the reader right in it. And I think that (even) a non-naval person will enjoy this story to its fullest.”

Norman MacIntyre 5.0 out of 5 stars Real life drama!
“To this former naval officer and Naval Academy graduate who has been around the world in destroyers, Strike From the Deep rings true on a number of different levels. Not only is it imaginative, it’s believable. The dialog rings true and the descriptions of ship operations are right on. The author is an experienced ship captain who knows these waters and the challenges facing ships that operate there. An interesting mix of current-day logistics with a cold war overtone. I thoroughly enjoyed it!”
“This book had me captured after reading the first page. At times I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. It not only had a lot of fascinating action taking place, it had some interesting side stories as well. Looking forward to more books from this author.”
Christian Moreau (Arlington, VA) 5.0 out of 5 stars A very good read, indeed!
“Although Bob Branco is a personal friend, I don’t think I’m the least bit biased when I say that Strike From the Deep is a beautifully written novel, well worth the reader’s time. Bob calls on his years of experience as a ship’s Captain in the U.S. Navy, and, after my reading the book, he leaves me feeling that I know, just a bit, what it’s like to work and serve on a Navy destroyer.
The concept of modern day pirates must be unique in contemporary maritime themed novels, because until reading Strike From the Deep I had no idea that they existed! I’ve learned, however, that they do exist and the crisis described in the book could actually happen.
I recommend the book highly — it will grab and hold your attention from the first page! And, on a personal note, I hope that everyone who reads it will enjoy meeting the character of the French legionnaire, Henri Moreau!”
“”Strike from the Deep” is a story about modern day pirates and how the world is trying to deal with them. While it IS fictional (at least so far), it is based on the author’s real life experiences with the U.S. Navy in the Arabian Sea.
If you are looking for a book about buried treasure, this isn’t it. If you want to gain a better understanding of the pirates of Somalia – who they are, why they are pirates and how they are being manipulated by outsiders – this is the book to read.
If you want to get an inside look at the “modern” Navy – its successes and failures – this is the book to read. Or if you just want to spend a couple pleasant hours in a good book – this is the book to read. So quit wasting your time here and go read it!”
